Portland is known for its extensive array of local coffee shops. From Stumptown to Common Grounds, there is always a place nearby to find a great cup of coffee. Peaks Coffee PDX, which opened in April, is a new addition to Portland’s Southeast coffee scene, and it doesn’t disappoint.
Situated near 33rd and Hawthorne, it offers a rustic take on the traditional coffee shop. Metal stools lined up under polished wood tables add to the trendy vibe. With windows looking out onto Hawthorne, it’s the perfect spot to watch the world go by. Small plants are hung on the walls in a creative way to add a pop of life. Perhaps the most striking element when walking into Peaks is their motto painted on the wall. “For coffee and conversation” is prominently printed in a vertical fashion in big bold lettering.
The coffee shop provides friendly service with a great menu. They have a wide range of teas, pastries, and of course, coffee. Franklin alum, Emma Woodburn loves the new coffee spot.
“Every time I go, I get a soy lavender London fog, which is always amazing,” said Woodburn. She also loves the minimalist atmosphere and how the staff is friendly and chatty. The staff is attentive and is sure to make your experience pleasant. For example, they give you your own carton of cream for tea and coffee to make sure you are satisfied. Peaks provides their coffee mostly from Foxy Coffee Co., another local coffee provider in Portland.
Other quirks that make Peaks unique are their to-go coffee cups. The cups show an ombre design with different color scheme on every cup. The cup also has a cute phrase that is unique to each one. Examples of phrases include “It’s my hot mess day” and “you + me = awesome.” These touches add to Peak’s urban vibe.
Whether it be grabbing a fun cup of coffee to-go or sitting down and enjoying the simplistic atmosphere, Peaks Coffee PDX is a fantastic new spot to try. Peaks is located at 3340 SE Hawthorne Blvd. They are open from 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday and from 8:30 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday.
