On April 11, Franklin high school’s Associated Student Body (ASB) announced the new student body and class presidents who will take office in the fall of 2024. ASB is a class where students organize, fundraise, and facilitate Franklin’s school events. Along with the various members of the class and their numerous roles, each grade has two representatives who are recognized as class presidents, and the entirety of the Franklin student body is represented by the ASB president and vice president.

Representing all grade levels and leading the ASB class next year, will be Franklin’s new ASB President, Lenore Myers and Vice President Krystal “Krys” Le. Myers has been in ASB since her freshman year and has spent her time there helping to organize and put on numerous Franklin events, including spirit weeks, tailgates, and both homecoming dances of her high school career. Currently a sophomore, in her two years at Franklin Myers has been involved in the school community. This year alone, Myers served the Franklin community both as Franklin’s Student Senate Coordinator and Director of Marketing for The Franklin Post.

Krys Le is co-founder and president of Franklin’s Badminton Club and serves on the board of Franklin’s Key Club — a club that provides a space for students to find opportunities in the community to participate in community service. Krys Le is also already in the ASB class, and is currently learning, along with Myers, how to lead the class — a responsibility that they will completely take over next year.

Myers had been planning to run for ASB president since her freshman year, and Krys Le had begun the application process with plans to run as junior class president. When they both realized they needed someone to run with, it was almost an instant decision; they would run together. “I just had a good feeling about it,” Myers describes.

Myers feels prepared and ready for this role, and since she sees a future for herself in campaign managing or event planning, the skills she uses and will continue learning as ASB president will support her future plans and interests. Krys Le, on the other hand, sees more of a future for herself in law or psychology, and in her time leading ASB she wants to create lots of interpersonal connections while leaning on her passion for empathy.

Yenni Chavez and Ailinh Van will take over as the senior class presidents for the class of 2025, with Chavez taking the primary role as senior class president and Van as vice president.

Chavez gained interest in becoming class president after she took a leading role in the movement for students’ choice of English courses, as she was at the forefront of efforts advocating for themed English 5-6 and 7-8 classes to continue to be offered for English credit at Franklin. This year, Van has worked as a blood drive coordinator for Franklin’s Red Cross club and will be taking the role of Editor in Chief of the Franklin yearbook next year.

Chavez says she enjoyed the campaign process as she sees herself studying and working in the field of marketing one day, and campaigning for the presidency allowed her to showcase her passion and test her skills in marketing. Van is also looking forward to this role as she is on the extroverted side, a quality she says makes her well suited for a role where she will interact with so many people. “It’s nice to have this position where I can really get to know our entire class,” says Van. She also recognizes herself as someone who thrives in behind the scenes work where she can utilize her organization and technical leadership skills.

Looking into the next school year, Chavez and Van hope to increase community engagement by hosting more exciting assemblies and other events. They also plan to get both an early start to fundraising for prom and other ASB events and aim to host more creative fundraisers, as Van describes, “[it] feel[s] important to build up [funds] from the start [of the year].”

“I had a lot of fun campaigning, I got to express a bunch of ideas and I got to do it with someone I’m really close with,” says Chavez. Chavez and Van were already good friends before the election, and they express that running together was a good experience. “Our intention with the campaign was to just have fun and not really worry about the results,” shares Van.

For the class of 2026, next year’s junior class presidents are Tessa Rivard and Jake Lubin. Like the other new staff members, Lubin and Rivard have demonstrated their involvement and leadership through participation in lots of other parts of the Franklin’s community. Rivard runs for Franklin’s track and cross-country teams and is co-president of Franklin’s Athlete Mental Health Club, a club that builds community and provides mental health support for Franklin athletes. Lubin is a multi-sport athlete who plays tennis and soccer. Off the field and court, he has participated in various extracurricular activities and competitions at Franklin, winning Franklin’s annual story slam and earning a place as runner-up at the city-wide competition.

Rivard and Lubin are looking forward to their presidency, and throughout the year they hope to increase the Franklin students’ participation in school events by creating and hosting fun and engaging activities. Rivard has already been brainstorming fresh ideas for next year’s spirit weeks. They are also dedicated to fundraising for the various events they plan to put on next year.

Rounding off next year’s ASB class presidents are the presidents for the class of 2027, Toen Tran and Johnny Le. They are both currently involved in the ASB class, serving as support staff who work alongside the upper class presidents and other members of ASB.

This year Tran partakes in Franklin’s Men’s Volleyball Club and is on the track team. Johnny Le likes to spend his free time playing football and plans to play on the Franklin football team next year. As sophomore class presidents, their main goal is to work hard on fundraising. As incoming class presidents, they are also responsible for helping raise funds for the class of 2027’s prom and they take this duty very seriously.

Through the leadership and organization of Franklin’s new ASB class leads, students will have the chance to attend many events and activities throughout the 2024-2025 school year that boost community spirit and bring Franklin closer as a student body.
