I would like to kindly ask death to stop paying unwelcome visits to Franklin High School. Last year it took Mr. Tran. I guess that wasn’t satisfying enough. Not hard enough on all of us. I’ve had to learn over the course of my life that death doesn’t play fair. But that doesn’t stop me from wanting to protest it every time it happens. It doesn’t stop me from thinking about Genesis. Her contributions to social justice, her empathy for underserved communities, how she had so much more to offer the world. Her laughter in the Post room, her banter with Ms. Kirsch, her inability to back down from a challenging story.
Her light
her warmth
her smile
her everything.
And how I wish she was still here with us.
And how I wish the world got to see more of it.
