“Under Your Spell” – Snow Strippers
The Fall Playlist is something that the Post hasn’t done in a year and that needed to come back, because what are people going to do without music recommendations from a person with a niche music taste? I decided to choose songs that either reminded me of fall or gave me a dark weather vibe, something to set the mood for this season.
The vibe of this song was fitting, with a very roomy and ethereal vibe, and an older techno sound. I love the chord progression and the sound choices on this track too, so I felt that this would be perfect.
“NEVEREVER” – Destroy Lonely
The beat for this song was exactly the sound I was looking for, with automated low pass filters on the synths and the dark breathy vocal chop in the background.
“Quiet Mode (prod. blo0my)” – King E.D.O.
I produced this song during a Writers Late Night last year in October, so it was the ideal song for this playlist, especially with the dreary ambience used as the main sample for the song.
“Honda” – FKA twigs, Pa salieu
Though this song was released during the winter of 2022, I always got a fall feeling from it. It is one of my favorite songs to walk around to in the night.
“I Feel For You” – Chaka Khan
I remember the first time I heard this song, it was at a Halloween party back in 2018, and this song has always been one of my fall go-to’s.
“LANCY OR LANCY” – Lancy Foux
This song blew up on TikTok recently but I’ve been listening to it since it came out back in October of 2022, which is why it reminds me so much of fall. Really good production coming from Kameron Hessing on this one too.
“MMH HMM (feat. Sexyy Red)” – Lancy Foux
Lancy Foux is one of my favorite artists due to his unique sound, and with the dark production of this song and the resampled bells, I think it fits.
“burned” – prodby668
This song is a straight-up murky and ethereal beat, with not much else to it. prodby668’s beats are always crazy and this one fits the mood.
“FALL BACK” – CLIP
I love the production of this song. The sample is super dark and it combines well with Jungle Drum and Bass drums that play every so often during the track. CLIP’s vocals are also really sublime and spacy.
“Guessing Games” – Dev Lemons, Who’s Rules
I used to listen to this song frequently in October of 2021, so I always get brought back to fall when I hear it. The track also has a super tense chord progression throughout the song so I felt that matched the fall vibe pretty well.
“Spend the Money (feat. Lil Uzi Vert)” – Fousheé
I love the dark guitar sample on this song, and the Lowpass Filter complements it well, especially with Fousheé’s eerie vocals.
“Seeing Is Believing” – Curbi
Differing from the other songs on this playlist so far, I picked a deep bass house song. Curbi has a watery style of production with the reverberated organ chops used as the main synth in the beat drops. It’s the perfect fall song.
“Another Life” – JINGBY, Zach Fox, Emma Castellino
I love how deep and emotional this song is. Using a simple yet heart wrenching production, combined with Castellino’s deep vocals, this song screams autumn to me.
“Left To Try” – Osrin, WILHELM
I love the laid back yet firm emotional grip this track puts you in, and the guitars on this song are super well mixed. This was my favorite song back in the fall of 2020, so every time I hear it, I get brought back.
“Losing Myself” – blo0my, FAELIX
Though this song came out in August of this year, I made the original version of the drop back in early November of 2022, so I felt it would fit.
“Blindsighted” – Enman, Relacity
The lyrics of this song described how I felt during October of last year perfectly and with the depressing progression of the song, I think it works for this playlist.
“LIGHTYEAR” – bxnji
This is another song that’s just a beat, using a gloomy sample and melody combined with bxnji’s insane production skills.
“i feel like a dog” – meat computer
I always felt this was a perfect October song, with calm and dark production and meat computer’s soft vocals.
I tried to be as diverse as possible with the music that I chose for this playlist, including indie, rap, hyperpop, pop, and house music, while at the same time holding my original standard of dark/ethereal songs or songs that gave me a fall vibe. I looked for songs that I enjoyed within those genres that fit the standard that I set.
