Unless you’ve been living under a rock lately, you know that there’s a pandemic outside, which means we’ve been under quarantine for the past 7 months. If you’ve felt bored at all during that time period, then you’ve come to the right place. I played and ranked 15 of the most popular video games right now. So sit back, relax, and be prepared to clear some space on your PlayStation for these new titles.
#1 – Rocket League
Rocket League is a simple, easy-to-learn game. You don’t have to have prior gaming experience to be good at it. The game consists of two teams competing against each other to win the most goals—very similar to soccer, except instead of human characters, everybody is driving a car with rocket boosters on the back.
This makes for very exciting and chaotic matches. While winning, you will find yourself shouting every time you make a goal, or save the ball from the other team. While losing, you will find yourself cussing, raging, and shouting even louder. All in all, the game is very exhilarating, and quite a blast when playing with friends. The game can be found on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, or PC for free.
#2 – Fortnite
Fortnite is a well known game to say the least, and if you ask anybody about it they’ll probably say they either love it or hate it. Fortnite is controversial not because of the game itself, but because of the droves of young kids who play this game non-stop. But I really enjoyed playing it. It’s a boredom killer. You can play this for hours without realizing how long it’s been. Here’s how the game works, if you don’t already know: Your character starts above an island on a flying blue school bus called the “Battle bus,” along with 100 other people. At this point you can choose where to land on the island. You pick a spot, jump out of the moving bus, and parachute to the ground. The rest is like a weird version of the Hunger Games. Find weapons, materials, and health items, and try to kill the other players until you are the last one standing. You can also build structures, drive around in vehicles, and even cast for fish in the game to give you an advantage. The game is difficult to win, but not impossible for a new player. The island locations are changed every couple of months, and new features are added frequently, so the game is always changing. Overall, Fortnite is really fun and easy to pick up. Best of all, the game is free on most devices.
#3 – Minecraft
Although Minecraft is over 11 years old, it still holds its spot as the best selling video game of all time. The simplicity of building houses, fighting zombies, and mining for diamonds can’t be beat. The game has infinite creative potential with its simple building system. You search for resources, craft tools, and use those tools to help you build creative structures like houses, bases, giant boats, whatever you want. I personally have played this game thousands of times with or without my friends. It is so satisfying to see the “builds” that you’ve spent hours on finally finished. The only thing holding this game back is its price: $19.99 on Xbox, PS4 and Switch, and $26.95 on PC, which can be a big price tag for some.
#4 – Among Us
In Among Us, two of your friends are secretly killers, and you have to find out who the masked murderers are before they finish everyone off, similar to the party game “Mafia.” The game throws you and nine of your friends, or random players, onto a spaceship. Of the ten players, two will be randomly selected to be “imposters,” while the others are just “crewmates.” As an imposter, your goal is to kill the crewmates while remaining unnoticed and blending in. If a crewmate suspects someone, they can call an emergency meeting, or report a dead player and try to convince the other players of who it is. The game is filled with rage, arguing and spite for your friends. It’s a blast and I recommend you play it, just be prepared to end some friendships. Among Us is free to play on iOS, Android, and Steam for PC.
All of these games were lots of fun to play, and I would recommend downloading them if you find yourself bored. Rocket League, Fortnite, and Among Us are all for free on multiple devices. I hope this article has given you something interesting to do over these dreary quarantine days, so stay safe and have fun!
